Building Collaborative Teams

High-performing teams do not “just happen.” Leaders must have an awareness of individual differences, an understanding of group dynamics and a framework for structured, focused and productive meetings.

Course Description

Module 1 incorporates the DiSC® behavioral model as the foundation for communication and influence. Offered on-line or in paper version, this assessment provides a jumping-off point for understanding behavioral differences and how they impact team functioning. Exercises, video, and group activities are designed to help participants develop a solid understanding and application of their new skills by the end of the first morning of training.  The end of this first module ends with an overview of ineffective and effective teams, and an understanding of the stages of team development.

Module 2 gives an overview of meeting structure, providing hands-on tools for understanding the meeting process, agendas, team roles, and follow-up activities. Participants develop skills in goal setting, building trust, and setting behavioral ground rules.

During Module 3, participants “go live” with a simulation, designed to help bring out potential strengths and weaknesses of team functioning. Since each module builds on the last, group members will see the importance of each tool in successful meetings. Facilitation skills such as listening, questioning, and managing difficult team members are discussed.

In Module 4, team members learn skills for decision-making, problem solving, and prioritization. Then they complete the training with a final Lab experience designed to apply workshop tools and skills.
